What to Know About Lithium Batteries
Dive computers use lithium-ion batteries—the same kind you’ll find in phones, laptops, and other gadgets. They’re rechargeable and long-lasting, which makes them a great choice.
But here’s the catch: lithium batteries don’t like being completely drained. Leaving them dead for too long can permanently damage the battery.
To help prevent that, all MISSION devices come with a built-in protection circuit that constantly monitors battery voltage and kicks in if anything goes wrong.
That said, lithium batteries naturally wear out over time and with regular use.
And some common habits can speed up that process—like charging the device while the contacts are still wet. That’s not just bad for the battery—it can also overheat the device or even cause dangerous malfunctions like swelling or fire.
❌ Mistake to Avoid #1: Leaving It Plugged In Overnight
Leaving your dive computer at 100% for hours on end (like overnight) can age the battery faster.
Instead, try to keep it charged between 30% and 50% when possible.
If you’re charging, do it during the day or when you’re around, so you can unplug it once it’s full.
❌ Mistake to Avoid #2: Letting the Battery Reach 0%
Are you running the battery completely dead before every charge?
That actually shortens its lifespan.
It’s best to start charging when the battery drops to around 20%, not 0%.
Regularly draining it to empty can affect internal battery voltage — and in some cases, your dive computer might not turn on again.
❌ Mistake to Avoid #3: Using Cheap or Unreliable USB Chargers
Not all USB chargers are created equal. Even if they say “5V 2A” on the label, that doesn’t mean they deliver power accurately.
Low-quality chargers can lead to overheating, overcharging, or even permanent damage to your device.
Stick to reputable brands and use cables that match the recommended specs.
💡 A Friendly Reminder for Seasonal Divers
If you only dive during summer or plan to store your dive computer for a while, make sure to fully charge it before putting it away.
Also, top it up every two months to keep the battery healthy and avoid over-discharge.
